Don't flush baby wipes!
Updated: Jan 12
If you think there’s no risk in flushing baby wipes, think again! This goes for so-called “flushable wipes” as well. That soothing wet wipe can easily become a pain in the rear, figuratively speaking of course.
That was certainly the case for one local resident today, who called us when her toilet and shower backed up and flooded her entire bathroom. I don’t think I need to tell you just how gross that is! Suspecting the problem to be both a full septic tank and clogged main line, TVP called in River City Environmental to pump out the septic tank. River City offers emergency services and were out to the property in a jiffy.
As their technician worked on emptying the tank, one of our expert plumbers, Weston, worked on clearing the main line. That’s when we discovered the baby wipes! Once the clog was cleared and tank was emptied, the plumbing system was back to normal. However, the ordeal was not over. There was still the matter of sewage in the bathroom. Yuck! Thankfully, we have a go-to restoration company, ServPlus Immediate Response. They came out within just a couple of hours from our initial call and cleaned up all the mess.
Because TVP managed the whole emergency so smoothly, it might not sound like such a big deal. Besides losing a few hours out of their day though, the homeowner also had to spend money unexpectedly with three different companies. So, what is the best way to avoid being in the same situation? Don’t flush baby wipes!
