Spring Plumbing Checklist

Spring has finally sprung! As warmer weather approaches, it’s time to think about a little more than just cleaning. The season is also a good time to assess and maintain your plumbing system. Regular maintenance can help to decrease the chances of serious problems with your plumbing and prevent costly damage and an unwanted visit from a professional. Read on to check out our spring plumbing maintenance checklists for both the indoors and outdoors.
Indoor Checklist
Inspect your water heater for wear, leaks, damage, and any needed repairs.
After rain or snowmelt, inspect your garage or basement walls for signs of moisture, cracks or leaks.
Inspect your washing machine and ice dispenser hoses, replace if needed.
Remove water stains with half a lemon for a quick faucet facelift.
Thoroughly clean your garbage disposal to reduce the risk of future clogs.
Clean your showerheads to reduce mineral buildup and mold.
Inspect the grout and caulk around sinks, tubs, and showers, and repair or replace the damaged areas.
Outdoor Checklist:
Clean out your gutters and downspouts.
Check your crawl space for water accumulation, excessive moisture, and debris.
Check the valve where water enters your house, outdoor faucets, and valves to toilets. Turn each off and on several times to identify leaks.
Learn how to check a water meter to find plumbing leaks.
Remove temporary cold-weather insulation, such as pipe jackets and faucet covers.
Flush your sprinkler system and check it for leaks. Make sure that your sprinkler heads are aimed properly and do not spray the walls of your house.
Plan around underground plumbing when planting new trees, landscaping, or installing sprinkler systems.
After completing these lists, you are off to a good start to ensuring your plumbing system is healthy and ready for the spring and summer months to come. If you are in need of plumbing help, contact our team today, 503-607-7242.
